Evolution of Machines. What are Robots Taught?

Evolution of Machines. What are Robots Taught?

Эволюция машин: чему человек учит роботов

And Why? On Purposes and Capacities of Robots and Prospects of their Development

Making production more efficient was the task of machines in early 19th century, robots—in the middle of the 20th, and today it’s done by the robots with artificial intelligence. Developers and researchers are working on making robots increasingly efficient but also convenient, interactive, safe, and cooperative.

Ability to Recognize and Analyze

Reliable robotic manipulators that can grip and move various items are in high demand in a number of industries, such as retail trade, food, pharmaceutical, electronic industries and many more. Modern tasks of such robotic systems include secure and “soft” grip, high-speed and high-precision handling of items, and their impeccable sorting. Here is when artificial intelligence comes into play.

Ronavi Robotics and Robotics Management System

“When we started developing Ronavi H1500 4 years ago, logistic robots were only used to handle racks in the order assembly zone,” Ivan Borodin, director of Ronavi Robotics, manufacturer of logistic robots, recalls. “By 2019, producers have normally developed entire lines of robots and functional modules for them. That said, in 2020 Ronavi is to release a sorting robot for small parcels and letters and another one for fulfillment centers. Therefore, almost all warehouse processes are getting roboticized with the robots embedded in one ecosystem.”

According to the expert, artificial intelligence is applied to simulate logistic processes and control the robots. “Our partners that developed the Robotics Management System (RMS) use machine learning and artificial intelligence to create the optimal configuration of a robotic warehouse and robot management depending on the daily and seasonal changes in the order flow,” Ivan Borodin specifies.

The RMS enables creation of digital replicas of robots to calculate economic indicators, build true-to-life simulations and analyze the processes that occur in a robotic warehouse. The first part of the system is all about transportation: it is in charge of distributing tasks across the hive of robots, planning simultaneously completed itineraries, automatic recharging and tackling bottlenecks. The second one is the smart warehouse management system which analyzes the logged data and integrates a multitude of storage optimization technologies to increase warehouse efficiency and build a dynamic strategy of storage.

AI robots amplify efficiency many times over. “Automated warehouse processes prove to cut operational expenses and reduce errors, as well as speed up order processing. For example, according to Business Insider, by 2018, Amazon completely roboticized 26 warehouses, which brought the operational costs down by 20%—it saved hundreds of millions of dollars, in the meanwhile, the company delivered 10 times more work with the same number of employees involved,” Ivan Borodin, director of Ronavi Robotics, manufacturer of logistic robots, says describing the efficiency of robots in logistics.
