Solartek Group of Companies will use equipment by the Swedish company Midsummer for their new production of flexible solar panels designed for integration into house roofs and facades. The first factory producing flexible solar panels in Russia under SteelSun trademark will be located in Saransk at the premises of the Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials Center of the Republic of Mordovia, the production investor. Solartek will be in charge of the Swedish production technology transfer.
The production line for the integrated solar panels will be delivered by Midsummer under the agreement on non-silicone flexible photoelectric device market development in Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union, concluded between Rusnano Group and Midsummer in September 2019. The cost of the equipment will stay within the usual range of costs for this type of production lines: from 3.5 to 5 million US dollars

The production line will be delivered to the SteelSun factory in Saransk by the end of 2020. The enterprise will be run both by the Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials Center of the Republic of Mordovia and Solartek, which is a part of the TechnoSpark Group of Companies. From 2015 Solartek sets forward solutions for solar roofs: flexible shingle, soft roofing materials and facing tiles with built-in thin-film photovoltaic panels. Solartek has selected a production line for the factory and supports the transfer of technologies.
The launch of this plant targets the demand for integrated solar roofs in the commercial sector. We promote unique products – various roofing materials with integrated solar cells. Midsummer’s technology is perfectly suited for this. With tech transfer and localization of flexible solar cells manufacturing in Saransk we expect to scale the business of solar roofs in Russia and abroad

SteelSun factory will produce solar cells and modules using Copper Indium Gallium Di-Selenide (CIGS) technology. The average efficiency of such modules is about 15%. They will be able to function under diffused lighting and partial shading. The project production capacity will amount to 10 MW per year.
Commercial construction and renovation market segment will provide target product consumers in Russia and other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan). The segment of flexible built-in modules is developing very fast within the framework of global solar power engineering. The largest manufacturers of construction materials (polymers, glass and steel) are actively engaged in creation of solutions based on the built-in photovoltaics.
Thanks to this equipment supply, the unique technology of the integrated non-silicon photovoltaics will be transferred to Russia.
