New rules: contactless diagnostics and circumspect economy / Optical Magazine

In the year 2020, the COVID-19 epidemic broke out in the world. It transformed the public conscience and caused the development of new safety measures. Private space, social distance, personal protective equipment became regular and compulsory requirements. The approach to the classical service provision changed as well. The society focuses on the automation of different processes, the speed of service rendering is increasing, the new technologies that allow avoiding direct contacts are implemented. The consumers tend to use delivery services, Internet, mobile apps and distance services more than before. The Medical Director of Visionix Rus Sergei Nazarov shared how the new reality influenced the ophthalmological diagnostic procedures at the optical stores where the contact between the specialist and the patient takes place.

Space and effort saving

The Visionix products strictly comply with all the international standards for high-quality diagnostic equipment. The equipment used by the Company is distinctive with its diagnostic speed, precision of the results, multifunctionality of the examination and incredible comfort for the patient.

Visionix VX120+ and Visionix VX130+ multifunctional diagnostic systems are used for the diagnostics of the anterior segment of the eyeball to reveal the primary symptoms of glaucoma, to confirm current hypertension (IOP), to check all the relevant values of the anterior and posterior corneal surfaces, to diagnose a cataract, demonstrate the higher and lower order aberrations, indicate the keratoconus and its stage, to measure the corneal thickness.  These are just a small share of the data the specialist may collect in 1.5 minutes to make a further decision. During the examination, the patient is comfortable; the examination speed does not stress the patient; all the manipulations are automatic. The specialist can consult the patient properly without wasting the time on “pressing buttons” and switching devices.

Dry eye syndrome, diagnosis of the “home office age”

In the time when the entire humankind spends more time in front of their computers in the environment with insufficient air humidity, the ocular surface is the first to suffer. The factors listed above facilitate the development of the so-called dry eye syndrome (DES) which may consequently cause chronic corneal diseases. At the end of 2019, Luneau Technology Operations Company developed and presented Visionix VX120+ Dry Eye, a new device to evaluate the tear film stability.

The device uses a non-invasive method to detect the DES, provides the tear breakup time, the impact area, the data to evaluate the tear meniscus dimensions ad the functional state of the Meibomian glands. The mapping method is used to indicate the segments where the Placido rings projected onto the right and the left eye of the same patient are distorted together with the time when such distortions occur. Based on this data, the system provides the two parameters: the first NITBUT and NITBUT 50%.

Figure 1. Two examples of NITBUT measurement with the dry eye syndrome diagnostic module on the VX12+ platform: medium dry eye syndrome (left) and a healthy eye (right). • Visionix VX120+DE evaluates the tear film using white and infrared radiation. The high-resolution colour camera detects the tear breakup thickness, the breakup time (NITBUT) and applies them on the cornea tomography image between the eyelid closure moments. The examination is non-invasive, absolutely painless and causes no discomfort to the patient. The examination time will be a nice surprise to the specialist.
  • The embedded TF-Scan analyses the tear breakup time and visualises it to the patient. The high-resolution images make the problem easier to understand and help building trusting relationships between the patient and the doctor.
  • R-Skan is the first and only technology for the automatic and objective measurement and classification of the bulbar and limbar redness degrees. R-Skan detects fine blood vessels in the conjunctiva and evaluates the redness degree.
  • Using the Efron grading scales, the specialist selects the clinical picture of the patient; VX120+DE automatically uploads it to the current patient data and attaches it to the final report at the end of the examination.

Additional options

Visionix VX120+DE multifunctional diagnostic complex is not limited to the DES block, but provides the full spectrum of screening functions for diagnosing patients with the primary symptoms of glaucoma and cataract, as well as to register the physiological changes that occur in the cornea. This scope of functions makes Visionix VX120+DE a unique diagnostic device capable of catering big numbers of patients, optimising the space and time required for diagnostics without any quality losses.

Visionix Rus Company has registered the device in Russia. According to the specialists, Visionix VX120+DE made DES diagnostics much more informative, and the data provided to the patient are now more convincing for the prescription of therapy and further examination. The clinic owners noticed the increase of the average bill, the engagement of the staff and therefore the upsale of the tear
secretion stabilisation drugs.

Smart electronics

In the situation of low consumers’ demand when the saved money equals to the earnings, Visionix Rus Company offers the solutions that may be interesting for both clinics and optical store chains. Due to the location of the production site in Moscow, the quality of the supplied equipment is properly controlled and the sufficient stock for the customers is kept. Just like car service companies, if the commissioned equipment requires substantial repair, the company offers “courtesy equipment” for the repair period. Such customer support measures are essential for the businesses to make their clients feel secure and confident about their vendor choice.

In 2020, the customers were offered a range of financial products for the purchase Visionix equipment with an interest-free instalment program without any leasing organizations involved. This solution makes it possible to work with the company directly, to get the most precise information about the products and to optimise the final cost expenses.

Visionix Rus Company is open for cooperation with new customers. We will be delighted to share our international experience, to demonstrate the innovative projects of our company, to implement the latest types of equipment into both existing and opening businesses and to improve them.
