Dry eye syndrome, diagnosis of the “home office age”
In the time when the entire humankind spends more time in front of their computers in the environment with insufficient air humidity, the ocular surface is the first to suffer. The factors listed above facilitate the development of the so-called dry eye syndrome (DES) which may consequently cause chronic corneal diseases. At the end of 2019, Luneau Technology Operations Company developed and presented Visionix VX120+ Dry Eye, a new device to evaluate the tear film stability.
The device uses a non-invasive method to detect the DES, provides the tear breakup time, the impact area, the data to evaluate the tear meniscus dimensions ad the functional state of the Meibomian glands. The mapping method is used to indicate the segments where the Placido rings projected onto the right and the left eye of the same patient are distorted together with the time when such distortions occur. Based on this data, the system provides the two parameters: the first NITBUT and NITBUT 50%.

- Visionix VX120+DE evaluates the tear film using white and infrared radiation. The high-resolution colour camera detects the tear breakup thickness, the breakup time (NITBUT) and applies them on the cornea tomography image between the eyelid closure moments. The examination is non-invasive, absolutely painless and causes no discomfort to the patient. The examination time will be a nice surprise to the specialist.
- The embedded TF-Scan analyses the tear breakup time and visualises it to the patient. The high-resolution images make the problem easier to understand and help building trusting relationships between the patient and the doctor.
- R-Skan is the first and only technology for the automatic and objective measurement and classification of the bulbar and limbar redness degrees. R-Skan detects fine blood vessels in the conjunctiva and evaluates the redness degree.
- Using the Efron grading scales, the specialist selects the clinical picture of the patient; VX120+DE automatically uploads it to the current patient data and attaches it to the final report at the end of the examination.
